Well, sorry about last week. Things have gotten a bit crazy headed into the holidays and as much as I love to share new tunes, I also love to spend time with people so if one thing is going to suffer it will most likely be the blog. That being said – let’s get to some new Christmas tunes.
Sufjan Stevens: Songs for Christmas
This is my new favorite Christmas album (for right now). It is Sufjan Stevens’ Songs for Christmas. Now it’s not new but I just recently purchased it and it’s all I want to listen to. The sound unique and raw which for me brings the simplicity back to Christmas songs, but don’t get me wrong, these songs are deep, complex, and arranged very well. It is a box set of 5 discs with a total of 42 songs and extensive liner notes too. It also came with some stickers and some short stories. It’s pretty stinkin’ cool! (for more on the history and back story of how this set came to be click here – and download the mp3s on that page too.)
Now the songs are very eclectic and probably not for the uber-traditionalist. However; if you find yourself looking for some variation on the standard Christmas catalog of songs then this may be just what you are looking for. He definitely puts his own twist on some Christmas standards like O Come, O Come, Emmanuel and Silent Night – and has some original Christmas songs too like That Was The Worst Christmas Ever. Seriously – with the 5 different discs I find myself enjoying the variety and newness of the whole thing and really cannot stop listening to it this holiday season. Check it out and let me know what you can’t (or can) stop listening to this season. (sorry – no videos on this one)

The more I listen to it on imeem, the more it grows on me. I feel you on the fact that all of about 4 people ever look at my blog. That obviously hasn’t discouraged me. I did get a pingback yesterday, so that was nice.
